Slovakia used the Slovak koruna as its currency from 1993 to 2008. The koruna currency was introduced on February 8, 1993, after the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, and replaced the Czechoslovak koruna - which had been in use since the end of World War II. The Slovak koruna was divided into 100 haliers and circulated until January 1, 2009, when Slovakia joined the eurozone and adopted the euro as its official currency and the exchange rate was fixed.
